What are GLP-1s?

GLP-1s (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 receptor agonists) are a class of medications that mimic the GLP-1 hormone, which is naturally produced in the gut. These drugs are primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity because they help regulate blood sugar levels, slow gastric emptying, and promote feelings of fullness, leading to reduced appetite and weight loss. Some common GLP-1 medications are semaglutides like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and Rybelsus®, tirzepatides like Mounjaro®, Zepbound®, and Trulicity®.
